PeopleSmart.com and CallTRUTH.com

I searched CallTRUTH.com for a particular number and the output said, they have "Located my caller" and that "Full report is available". I chose the annual membership ($23.40), figuring, I may use the service a few more times.

Unfortunately, once I paid (and it turned out, CallTRUTH.com was just a front for PeopleSmart.com - which has a ton of complaints against it logged already), PeopleSmart does not know anything else about the number: it is "Unlisted". They even gave me back "40 credits" -- rather useless, because I purchased "unlimited" membership for a year (or so I thought, read on).

So, CallTruth.com lied to me, when they said, that additional (full) information is available.

I then tried searching for my own cell-number -- which I had for about 15 years now. Guess what? PeopleSmart found the number, but I've never heard the name they have associated with it -- nor have I ever lived at any of the addresses, that the number was, supposedly, listed for.

So, not only do they not always have the information they promise to deliver at whatever price, when they do have the information, it may very well be completely bogus.

But the final kicker? When I tried searching for another number, I was asked for another $7.95 to see "full results" -- despite having already paid $23.40 for "annual membership"...

It seems, CallTRUTH.com is not the only front-end for PeopleSmart.com -- obvious fraudsters (usaconsumercomplaints.com hosts plenty of complaints about them). If you try to find a source of reverse phone number information, many different sites pop-up -- but, once you proceed to pay for the info, you get transferred to peoplesmart.com. When that happens, stop and try to find a site using a different data-provider -- there ought to be others, though I don't (yet) know a decent alternative.
