Seemingly unsolvable issue with my bank card

I'm having an ongoing issue with my debit card, I've even been to an FNB branch and they were unable to help me resolve the problem, and just recommended that MAYBE if I get a a cheque account it will resolve the issue, I'm not going to apply for a cheque account if I'm not even sure that's the issue.

I have a Smart Account and every month I have a payment that goes to Afrihost, ever since I replaced my bank card a couple of months ago, every time the payment is meant to go through, I get an sms saying "Tranx declined due to CVV failure. 3 digit security code incorrect or missing in Tranx detail." this error makes no sense to me and doesn't provide any further details to resolve it. Then if I go to the Afrihost site, resubmit the exact same card details, all of a sudden the payment goes through, but I get charged a R50 admin fee because my card was initially declined! I'm also getting the same error when I try to make certain online transactions such as when I attempt to verify my Paypal account so that I can link my Paypal to FNB, there is no indication of whether it's an issue with my account type or something else. Paypal states that they accept debit cards.
